It has been a month since we moved.
I keep getting asked ..."now that you have moved, what have you done?"
Followed by tons of other questions.
"I'm just enjoying my days, being present"... I say to my mother.
In New York there was so much planning and going, I don't remember if I ever asked myself if I enjoyed my day. My days consisted of: crowded train rides with the same unhappy faces, the petty hum-drum of people complaining about the same things, everyone consuming just to fill their empty spaces and at the end being too tired to enjoy my days with my kids at home and too overwhelmed to share my crap-load day. When I finally did "stop" my head would still be spinning and I now realize that I never did really stop.
Until now...
What I have learned about the south...Here summer is endless, we get treated to a nighttime serenades on our porch and strangers say hello.
My favorite things : the sound of my wooden screen door, the smell of rain coming, the laughter in the backyard, the captain cutting wood in the shop, and the epic hide and seek games in this house.
"I may not be from the south but I got here as soon as I could."- I heard a local say.
To stop here is easy
We stop to set up a broomstick shop
and try on all the dresses
and pretend they hold magical powers
"momma, there is music in the dresses...you must dance"
we believe in the magic of pretty dresses and so we dance
We stop to be tickled until you choke
We stop and explore...and watch my kids be amazed in the enchantment of the city of Savannah
I fell in love with its beauty and history
while the princess made wishes in fountains and offerings to the fairies
and the king took it all in realizing his dreams were coming true
When we walked the street we strutted to a beat ...
and when we stopped to look we stared in awe...we took a peak inside the windows one of our favorite shops...
we chilled out at the famous ice cream shop
and saw some familiar faces
Dreamed of a future date night with the captain here...
We stop to create gifts with our hands
the captain building a much needed bookcase in his woodshop |
There are the days we stop ...to be present
and we spin .... from the omnipresent glee
Have a great week!
