Market color

One of the many great things about Brooklyn is the creative ways of the use of space
and how to use that space to promote local artists.
When I heard about Dekalb Market I was itching to go...
Shops inside shipping containers?? I had to go see this for myself.
Sure enough here it is... a living community of artists and vendors inside these vibrant containers
in the middle of downtown Brooklyn, right off the subway.
Once we entered the colors were so alive
it was easy to forget the rain and the dark clouds lingering above.

We fell in love with the vibrant colors and the vibrating energy brewing inside

These were some amazing local artists.

I was super happy to see my good friend Maxcine and her yarn shop Stitch Therapy
doing so well in her new home.
The boys fell in love with this vintage toy shop Far Far Away Toys.
The captain relived his childhood with the king as they drooled over the Star Wars memorabilia.

"Hey look at this !! I had one of these ! "
The captain was so excited to see one of the first hand-held video games.
The king was psyched to get himself a vintage Star Wars graphic novel in mint condition.
Some other shops...

The princess got a feathered headband of her choice
notice the DJ in the background

The food plaza had a dj, great food and drinks.
Located at the heart of the market this was where energy really pumped.

The princess enjoyed the music while we ate
The urban garden in the back had an outdoor seating area
that was perfect for hanging out with the kids
It is certainly a place I can see myself returning to

Have any new colorful adventures lately?

  1. How strange, but utterly brilliant all rolled into one.

I know in the UK those kind of storage units are used as garden workspaces....another one of those wacky ideas, but it really does work.

    1. I like weird but brilliant things all the time. It takes a special person to see beauty in the strange or unusual.
Ok a bit off topic, but you know...

A bit nervous, but a good nervous.
Ok off topic again, but you know.

  3. I have a niece living in a shipping container in Alaska, where she teaches in a small village. Housing is difficult to come by, and she finds her "apartment" quite cozy. I assume it must be insulated there! Your photos are beautiful - really enjoyed your post.

    1. Wow!! That is so admirable. She sounds really interesting. My husband and I had a one room apartment that was about that size and we had to share a bathroom. I remember thinking that is was cosy too and the best time of our lives. We still live simply even with two kids.
Kathy , thanks for stopping by. Much appreciate the love here.
Will be following you on your adventures in Oregon too.

  6. Total eye candy! I would love to live in NY, looks like so much fun. I was actually born in Queens and my mother grew up in Brooklyn but we almost never get back there! We don't have anything that awesomely hip here. I did have a colorful adventure recently - my mom has lots of flowers at her house and I had fun snapping pictures : )

    1. Margo, Brooklyn is very different from Manhattan. It is very homey, has a lot of culture and has a more artsy feel.
You would love it if you are ever here I can let you into some of the best local places.
