Once upon a yarn

This is the story of how i fell in love with balls... and skeins.
I first learned the craft from my mother as a teenager and I picked it up right away.
She taught me basics only because that is all she stuck with...
the basic knit, purl techniques.
I admit at that age I grew hungry and bored with it.
I then picked it up again shortly after my daughter was born about three years ago.
I had given a knitting set for my niece as a gift so she could learn.
Uninterested she let it sit, and sit and sit...
I picked up those neglected needles instead, it all came back to me
... and so my love affair began.

In this love I have ventured and explored new techniques, intricate patterns and new tools.
A new project for me is a new adventure that comforts me and never gets old.
I often get asked if I prefer to knit or to crochet better.
I can only say I love them both. I switch constantly because I love to keep practicing both.
My appetite for textures, patterns and fibers is forever constant.
My hands sweat and my heart palpitates at the start of something new.
These are some of the recent creations...
bag of bliss
I did some crochet baby sets for some lovely friends of mine.
I love to creating new blankets for babies entering the world.
Both of my kids knit blankets were made by my mother.
These blankets go everywhere with us keeping them warm and safe.
They also participate in many of their adventures... a cape, a magic carpet, a tent...
I create these with love and imagine these children using them as my kids do.

With this blanket I originally started out with something complicated, redid it four times over.
Then after some more research I ended up with did a simpler pattern... and I loved it.
I found it to be the perfect feel and weight for a baby blanket.
The basic pattern was taken from here and I changed it a bit.

I then came across this lovely book by the amazing Linda Permann
and could not resist these booties and had to try them.

Then I made a simple crochet hat and the set was complete and ready
to be sent to my lovely friend Cathy in Savannah, Georgia who was getting
ready to be a grandma.

The girl set was quick and simple but so fun.
I was so excited that I did the research, picked the yarn and completed it in a week!

The blanket pattern and yarn came form here.
The booties pattern came form here and I added my own bows.
I loved the way the colors worked in and the light feel to this spring blanket.
The hat is the same pattern as the boy one except I with an added scalloped edge
and I then added a flower with a button center later (no picture was taken).

Now I am learning to make some kitchen items for a lovely friend, Lonna,
who has a shop in California. She is a bee keeper who makes really yummy
things out of honey and makes her own preserves.
It is a true privilege to create for this bee charmer.

In the spirit of inspirations here is one that happened to find me all the way from Spain.
her site- NiƱa Como Yo
She has a great sense of style , a love of poetry and a quirky sense of humor.
We share a love of knitting, music, photography and the simple life.

This is her, the bella Isabel transformed into art work by another inspiration of mine Macarena Gomez.
She has such beautiful pieces of art and I am continually fascinated by her.
Check out her amazing site - Vestida de Domingo.

Thanks ladies for continuing to inspire me!

I love knitting, having learnt when I was 6, but now at 40 I am learning to crochet ... it's never too late for a new skill.
