I am not much for planned things or routines, but we do this thing some time after lunch and right where the height of the heat is peaking outside... And its just that time of day its too hot to go back outside, where the floor is littered with well played toys, costumes no longer folded and signs of half done art projects all over the table.
We invented girl coffee time.
Its when I need that second or third cup to get me through the second lag of the day. To finally do all the things I have procrastinated over (laundry, cook, clean...), or just because I wanted to spend time playing like today.
Today I captured her over our "girl coffee time" in our favorite sunny spot and noticed that smile. That look that tells you "this is the older version of her" look.We spoke of her love for ponies and how one day she would love to own horses with one named Moonlight. We reminisced about our old home that we left behind a year ago (exactly in two days). We spoke of Susana Baca playing in the background and helping translate the Spanish words she did not recognize for her . She said "Susana must be a strong woman" I said "why do you say that?" She says "Because in the way she sings the words".
Then I ask her to promise me she will stay 4 years old forever. And she says " No mama" And asked her why. She says with a smile " Because, I need to grow bigger so I can grow bosoms, silly."

Hah I love that she said she wants to grow up and grow bosoms :)
ReplyDeletehow does it end up about bosoms, I don't know but it's quite funny she associates that with growing up :)
ReplyDeleteHAHA! This is such a beautiful memory and then the bosoms comment comes up. Perfect post - you made me feel AND laugh. :)
ReplyDeleteShe's so precious!
Thanks Laura! The facination with bosoms in little girls is adorable. She also just likes to say the word bosoms and laugh :)
DeleteI love this. I didn't have a little girl, but two little boys, who have now become young men. But I have a two year old granddaughter who is currently very interested in "boobies." she wants to touch and see. I was holding her the other day, she pulled down my shirt and said, "I like your boobies." I couldn't help but giggle. she giggled too.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely is different than having a boy at that age. My boy is twelve now but back then we having very different conversations. Girls are quite curious and boys just want to be naked :)
DeleteThanks for stopping by to comment Rebecca! Hope you are enjoying your summer in the south so far.
I love this! I love this. What a great little girl you have. And smart! She recognizes strength in the singer's voice. That is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah, she is quite intuitive and i love her perspective of the world. Its a great age for great conversations.
Deletehaha what a cutie! Bosoms. What an intellect as well. I started making more family dinners and I LOVE having us all sit down for dinner, conversations are never better when there are no distractions.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting! Dinner conversations are the best too.
DeleteThis is lovely. I tell my girls to stop growing daily, but they haven't come up with any reason that hilarious for growing.
ReplyDeleteShe surprises me with her answers, she is much funnier than I.
DeleteThanks for stopping by to comment and connect!.
I love how you said you saw her as the older version of her - I see that in my boys sometimes, too.
ReplyDeleteI know its hard to capture because its fleeting.
DeleteHa! Didn't we all want to grow up for that very reason? I love that you have girl coffee time. Does she get a special drink, too?
ReplyDeleteShe gets sweet tea and crackers, sometimes we will do a bowl of ice cream each ;)
DeleteI'm in awe of her comment about the singer being a strong woman, that's so wonderful. And of course her comment about the bosoms is pretty good too! ;) So sweet...
ReplyDeleteI was surprised as well. Personally I think its because I am teaching her spanish and I know she has heard me say its a "strong " language, but we also have conversation about "strong " women too.
DeleteThanks Elaine!
LOVE! She is absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl! Thanks for connecting and commenting :)
DeleteHey there! I love the girl coffee time--fabulous! And I know just what you mean by that little look that predicts the future. I told my youngest that he was not allowed to grow anymore. Allowed or not, he grew and is now taller than me!! How does this happen?
ReplyDeleteHey there friend , nice to see you:) !
