Where We Dwell

After weeks and weeks of social networking I needed a break. It seems like the act to be social has the opposite effect on me... the more networking I do the less authentic I feel. Left feeling insignificant and my sense of direction gets blurred.
The only combination I feel comfortable with is to balance a bit of both.
Share with others and make room for me. The libra in me needs that balance, the introvert in me needs that peace.
There is a lot I see and get easily distracted from all the glitter. It tends to overwhelm me.
So I go back into my cave to help me focus on the now. Remind myself that even though I am creeping on numero 41 soon I have all the time I need and there is no rush... my pieces always took time to cultivate. I have enough. I am enough. Basta
Remind myself that I rather be whole than happy, and I must go through periods of pain, sadness and complete uncertainty. I know when I recover, I look in the mirror I like what I see.
This is my process. Like thinking five steps ahead so the rook and knight do the dance to save the queen inside me.

The hats I wear are many and often worn at the same time.
But my favorite one is the mama sombrero.
In my cave, the dwellers are content. The king has grown in confidence and has found a new sense of self. Among teaching himself the ukelele, he is learning many things in his new school he has wanted to learn in a long time. He is exploring with stop-motion film, photography, creating video games, becoming aware of social issues, how to deal with stress and work as a team. He is currently reading this for school. He recently told me " I feel like I am in charge of what I am learning". This from the kid who once told me he does not know how to be happy.
The other little dweller spends her days learning at home through unstructured playtime and creative projects. I'm enjoying in the fact that after 12 hours of beauty sleep she wakes up singing to her dolls every morning and happily plays independently more and more. Something I thought I would never see.
Follow the directions ... rinse and repeat  Basta!

*** The pictures were all taken at The Habersham Antiques Market on my iPhone .

  1. Love love love this.
    Beautiful!
I get where you're coming from and I love when you write that you'e rather be whole than happy. Nobody can be happy all the time and embracing life with all its ups and downs is the only way to be whole.
    Basta! (love that especially :))

  2. Beautiful. I'm with you on the balance and needing to find a space for me. Sometimes I feel guilty if I let my Facebook page or Twitter feed go unused for a day, but I need that time to replenish and enjoy the silence.

  3. I want to live your life for one day, at least. You write it so beautifully.
And I love that your boy feels empowered, that should be the way! (loved the Malcolm Gladwell book, I read that in 2 days)

    1. Thanks Greta! These pics were fun to edit. I put them in here randomly and started writing, I love when that happens. It all comes together without a plan. My boy amazes me every day. He just told me today he joined the drama club and loves it.

  5. Basta indeed! It has many meanings in Tagalog but "let it be," "be content," "just move on," "accept." All of these resonate with me right now. Basta. Thank you for reminding me I knew such a word. I love this post, the story you tell, and the wave of emotion behind claiming all the things that are good for yourself before sharing it with the world. I've had a challenging day today. Nothing terrible. Just hard. Tonight it is you that comforts and reminds me: basta. Thank you for the breath of fresh air.

    1. Oh Sarah thanks! I love when words and pictures can be woven together like this too. I also like when pictures tell more than the story as well. This shop was magical and wanted to it off.
Must get to reading these books! Thanks .

  8. Outliers--haha! I am reading that book too right now.
I know what you mean about saying enough--let all this be enough. It is definitely a repetitive prayer of mine.
