Happy Feet

You never know what you come home with when you spontaneously visit a thrift shop and just two dollars in your pocket. Yeah, we popped some tags! The captain spotted what I saw to be a dusty thick piece of glass but to him was a world of possibilities. He said "can you see it perfectly fitting inside a coffee table?". I said " umm, why do we need a coffee table?" "We don't but you will."He answered back.
Coming from a small NY apartment last year we could not fit even an ottoman without the it looking like an obstacle course or having a toe stubbing competition. I don't ever rember putting my feet up , I'm a classic feet tucker. Could be why I have poor circulation.
I know better than to disagree with the captain's pallet wood fantasies ... so I gave in.

Working through sweatering hot temps and rainstorms in his shed he returned home excited at times and other times disappointed . Creating something from your mind's eye is quite difficult, you see it so clearly but to recreate it is a process full of sweat, pain and tears. I know I go through the same.
He carefully selects each piece to show the beauty in the wood, the grain, the knots, the old hammer dents, the old bent nail imbedded or old stamp marks from previous owners. He puts the together like I knit and weave my own pieces together. Different medium, same process.
I rather enjoyed my open space here... until I put my feet up. I was sold.
It has become quite a lovely part of our home. We craft on it, have snack on it, do puzzles and its a big hit with the little one who loves its height for the perfect play area. The feline in the family likes to cat nap in it during the day. It holds some of our favorite art books on the bottom shelf and a bowl of lavender and roses on the top.
And this lady puts her feet up any chance she gets.
Lessons learned...
never underestimated the power of two bucks and creativity
putting your feet up at home is a good thing
never doubt the captain

  1. WOW. It's funny to say it about a coffee table, but it is gorgeous. Truly. I wish I could do those things with two dollars and two hands. Amazing.
