About Independence

As we celebrated the 4th of July last night it finally hit me that the king will be going on a trip in a few days. This will be his second flight he has taken by himself and naturally I am more nervous than he is. I wrote about his first flight in this post written a few years back.
his first flight alone

This time he will be going to New York to spend a few days there and then heading to Hawaii with my mom and her husband for rest of the month. He is super excited to go island hopping, learn of its history, visit volcanoes and try new water sports.
The last time he went on a trip by himself he came back so grown and mature. I always had traveled alone since I was seven spending my summers with family in Puerto Rico. It was a time in my life I cherish and did a lot of growing up while I was away from home. It important for him for do some growing up without me as it is for me to give him that independence.

I will be posting pictures of his adventure my facebook page here and on my Instagram as it happens.
Follow us along this Hawaiian adventure all month long.
my favorite picture of the captain and the king... determined to get to the top of that mountain barefooted

  2. Love that last picture!
Hawaii is definitely a place I still want to visit and I'm excited to see the pictures.
It's great for kids to have the opportunity to do things without their parents, while still being with people who take excellent care of them. Good for the kids and the parents :)

Travelling itself is a great life experience. To do part of it alone is an even better one. I hope he enjoys himself!

    1. Thanks Sarah, its always good to have an extended family to have the opportunity to grow away from home. Since he has traveled he has had more confidence. When he returns this time he will be a young man with a more visible mustache.

    1. He has got some pretty awesome grandparents! I want him to be a traveler, I think that is so important to do it when you are young too. He will be more well rounded later in life. It will give him lessons I cannot teach him.
I am doing better. I spoke to him today and he told me he bought me a surprise and sent it in the mail. He has only been gone two days. My sweet boy!
